Transition Projects Welcomes New Board Members
Over the last few months, we've brought on four new Board Members. We invite you to learn more about each person and join us in welcoming them to the team!
John Ducker
John is the Senior Director of Global Supply Planning and Logistics for the Columbia Sportswear Company. His prior experience includes senior planning roles at Reebok, Rockport, Guess, Starter, J. Crew, and Liz Claiborne. John has served as a Meal Provider in our shelters since 2018. He was part of the 2017 Leadership Portland Class where he led an impact project for Portland Community College’s Gateway to College Program. John was on the Bates College Fund Executive Committee for over 20 years and received the Bates Best award in 2012 for excellence in alumni volunteering leadership. He has previously served for seven years as a Board Member for the Blue Hill Montessori School. John is also a writer with 15 poems published, and in 2009, Black Rose Books published The Kiss That Caused My Slice, a book of golf poems. He grew up in Denver and lived in Boston and New York before moving to Lake Oswego in 2014 with his family.
Jennifer Langston
Jennifer is a 3rd generation Portlander. She is an activist, advocate and artist who has been documenting the homeless community in and around Portland for more than 10 years. After facing homelessness herself, she connected with Transition Projects and was able to gain stable housing and crucial mentoring skills. For many years, Jennifer has led an arts-based mentoring group in our shelters. She is now a State Certified Mentor trained to work with individuals experiencing homelessness. Jennifer has been widely recognized for her art and was recently selected for the Literary Arts 2019 Women of Color Showcase. She hopes to continue to build bridges between the housed and unhoused through her service as a Board Member.
Carter MacNichol
Carter has served as the Managing Partner of Shiels Obletz Johnsen for more than 20 years and has led the development of many of their high profile transportation, mixed-use, non-profit and commercial development projects. Additionally, he is the manager of Sockeye Development, LLC, an affiliated development firm best known for the development of Belmont Dairy, Hollywood Bookmark and Museum Place. He brings expertise in planning, financing, budgeting, contracting and overall project management to our organization. Carter is active in the non-profit community and has served on several community boards, including the Western Rivers Conservancy and Oregon for Climate Action.
Jon Sherman
Jon is a Portland native, a former Transition Projects employee and a graduate of our Mentor Program. He helped spearhead our Peer Health Navigation program and currently works for Providence Health & Services as the Lead Peer Support Outreach Specialist of their Better Outcomes through Bridges Program. As someone who struggled for many years with chronic homelessness and addiction, he is very passionate about giving back to the community and is excited to take on a leadership role as a Board Member.
