Transition Projects Housed 600+ People in 2023
As 2023 ends, Transition Projects is proud to announce its progress in helping people transition from homelessness to housing.
Housing Placements on the Rise: This year, Transition Projects experienced a 26% jump in housing placements, resulting in 603 individuals, couples, and families finding a place to call home. In January 2024, a new strategic effort will kick off to place even more people from Transition Projects’ shelters into housing through increased staffing and housing assistance.
Shelter Bed Expansion: Transition Projects’ shelters are at full capacity, and with the addition of 120 beds at the newly re-opened Willamette Center, 710 beds are operating 24/7, 365 days a year. That is a 20% increase in capacity to our network of now eight shelters across the Portland metro area.
Day Services to Increase: The Resource Center served well over 4,300 people this year, providing showers, laundry, mail services, connections to housing programs, and more. It will expand its hours of operation in the new year to reach even more in 2024.
Supporting Area Veterans: Roughly 170 veteran families obtained housing through our Veterans Services team.
This progress moves the agency closer to achieving its vision for Portland of a just community in which everyone has access to a safe, affordable home.
In a statement, Transition Projects Chief Executive Officer Tony Bernal shared, “I want to thank our team for the remarkable strides we made together in 2023. I am cheered by this inspiring example of our progress in helping our most vulnerable neighbors.
The work does not stop here. I look forward to how Transition Projects will build on this success and help even more people transition from homelessness to housing in the new year.”
