Hot Weather Support
As the weather gets hotter, Portland needs all hands on deck to help support our neighbors experiencing homelessness through heat emergencies this summer.
What We're Doing to Help
We're working hard to help neighbors experiencing homelessness stay cool during the summer. Here's what we're doing to support people on the street and in our shelters:
Our Resource Center (located at 650 NW Irving St) is open Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Saturday - Sunday from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. distributing resources, water, snacks, and offering usual hygiene and mail services.
The Navigation team will be traveling around Portland distributing snacks, water, sunscreen, and other items as well as service referrals.
Our Retention team is working with people who have recently transitioned or are transitioning into permanent housing, providing fans, ice, water, and other hot weather essentials.
All 8 of our shelters continue to operate and are offering cooling stations, food, and cool spaces to sleep for people residing in shelter.
Share City-Wide Resources Including Cooling Centers and Stations!
Many people experiencing homelessness will be seeking resources to escape the extreme weather this summer. If you're looking for a place to cool down, or want to help spread the word, check out this map of libraries and parks with water features in the Portland area.
If you're interested in utilizing a Cooling Center or would like to learn more about volunteering during extreme heat events, visit the Multnomah County “Help for When It’s Hot” webpage.

There are so many crowd-pleasing dishes that you can prepare at home. Whether you decide to make a meal as a household, with your faith-based community, or as part of our new potluck meal team, you will make a difference!
